Easter: Peeps Rice Krispies Treats

My friend Tara and I had our first child around the same time (a month apart to be exact).  I'm so grateful that Little Muon and Little Man C are the best of friends.  When the kids were one year old, Tara and I thought it would be fun to host an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids and their friends.

This year will be hosting our 3rd Annual Egg Hunt!  Since Easter will quickly be upon us soon, I wanted to share some treats I made for last year's egg hunt  For our first treat, we made Peeps Rice Krispies Treats.  I found the idea from Christi at Love From the Oven.

This was such a fun and easy treat to make.  Here's what you'll need:
Rice Krispies Treats (pre-made or homemade)
Peeps
White Melting Chocolate
Sprinkles
Popsicle Sticks

I cheated and used the pre-made Rice Krispies Treats.  It was late and we wanted to keep this quick and simple.  We started by melting the chocolate.  You could use a double boiler, but I love using my small crockpot that I bought for projects like these.  There's no chance of water getting mixed with the chocolate (which will cause your chocolate to seize up and become hard) and it melts the chocolate into a nice and smooth consistency.

Next, we followed Christi's advice and cut the peeps in half.  They'll get a little smooshed, but let them sit for a bit and they'll spring right back into shape.

We inserted the stick into the Rice Krispie Treat and spooned a coating of chocolate on top.

Next apply the peep and add sprinkles.

We wrapped them in cellophane and tied a ribbon and added a little "Happy Easter" tag.

I thought they turned out adorable!  They were so much fun to make and made for an easy treat for the kids to take home with them!

All the kids had such a fun day especially Little Muon!
